Cincinnati Doctor Now President of State’s Largest Physician Association
Cincinnati family medicine doctor Robyn F. Chatman, MD, is now president of the Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA), the state’s largest physician-led organization. Dr. Chatman was sworn-in during the association’s annual business meeting in March. She is the first African-American president in the OSMA’s 169-year history and fourth female leader.
Dr. Chatman, a Gulfport, Mississippi native who has spent her entire career in Cincinnati, has held various positions caring for patients with substance abuse issues and working in Southwest Ohio’s under-served communities. She is also a clinical informatics specialist, a medical discipline using healthcare information technology and data to improve medical office efficiencies and operations.
Dr. Chatman, who will serve a one-year term as president, said she hopes to promote the association as a strong resource for Ohio physicians while looking to establish stronger relationships between the OSMA and younger doctors and those employed within health systems.
“We are implementing a new strategic plan that will allow us to better meet the needs of the physician community and provide much-needed professional support for young doctors entering our profession,” Dr. Chatman said. “Our new direction also creates more opportunities for us to welcome additional input and resources from private practice and employed physicians alike who might have valuable but differing perspectives on the practice of medicine. That diversity of thought will carry this organization forward.”
Dr. Chatman has been employed by Accenture/Sagacious Consultants as a Physician Informaticist and Senior Manager since 2015. She also continues to see patients at The Health Experiences and for Tri-Health. Aside from holding various positions within the OSMA as a longtime member, she is also a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Academy of Medicine of Cincinnati.
She earned her undergraduate degree in molecular biology/chemistry from the University of Mississippi and her medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio. She also completed post-graduate studies at The Ohio State University, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and Xavier University.
Also during the OSMA’s annual meeting, Evangeline Andarsio, MD, was voted president-elect. Dr. Andarsio, a Dayton private practice Obstetrician-Gynecologist, will succeed Dr. Chatman in April 2018.
